Callum is a freelance lighting designer, associate designer, and touring re-lighter, working across theatre, dance, opera, and live events both in the UK and internationally.
His career began as a casual lighting technician at The New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich, where he shadowed incoming designers and touring re-lighters as much as possible. Throughout his time at Wolsey, he built creative connections and progressed through various roles, allowing him to fully invest in a freelance design career.
In addition to his design work, recent associate projects include collaborations with London’s Children’s Ballet for Mark Jonathan, UniVerse: A Dark Crystal Odyssey for Lucy Carter, and Fisherman’s Friends for Johanna Town. Notable design venues include the Royal Albert Hall and Snape Maltings Concert Hall. He is currently engaged in ongoing international touring re-lighting work for all three productions of Company Wayne McGregor.
In 2019, Callum was among 38 emerging designers selected for the prestigious Lumiere Scheme by the Association of Lighting Designers. During this program, he was paired with distinguished designer Mark Jonathan, receiving a year of technical and career mentorship.
From 2021 to 2022, Callum received support from Arts Council England as part of their Develop Your Creative Practice campaign. This experience allowed him to expand his practice as an associate for Johanna Town, Mark Jonathan, Matthew Haskins, and Lucy Carter on various large-scale productions, including drama, musicals, opera, and ballet.
Callum is a member of the Association for Lighting Production and Design (ALPD) and Equity.
